Chapter 04 Page 39
And I haven’t done a dang thing for it. Because... reasons.
Among other things I’ve been working on a 7-page update, I hoped I’d have it done by today but that didn’t happen ;v;
I didn’t particularly have anything special planned, but, man. Five years. It doesn’t seem like that long to me, seeing as I was working on BTRN for pretty much the entirety of my formative years but still. Man.
I started Atrium long before this -- the idea first came to me when I was in high school, after I read a comic that, well, I thought was gonna basically be Atrium but turned out to not be about human chess in the slightest, so I took my expectations and turned ‘em into a comic of my own. It had a couple faulty starts in which I struggled with the actual chess game part, as well as managing a goddamn 32+ character cast, so I never in a million years thought it would keep going for five years, let alone be read -- no, liked by so many people.
A lot happened in those five years.
I learned about my heart murmur here.
The description on this page refers to my father and stepmother’s wedding.
I moved to Boston in September 2012 and met Matt on the 19th. He texted me when this page went live to talk about it. ... he probably doesn’t remember that lol.
I got contracted to do actual paid comic work here. The updates may have suffered, but it was a huge success for me.
The Red. Or as I still like to call it, The Goddamn Red. Second only to these past four months for the prestigious award of “Bullshit That Caused The Longest Hiatus On The Comic” wtf. Again, though, despite how much it killed the momentum of the comic, I can only thank it, as looking at the art both before and after The Red only serves to illustrate just how much that damned thing helped me evolve.
And then I became a cat mommy.
... and though I wasn’t intending to harp on it more, looking at the archives, just, man, it’s like the very second I started working at my last job, you can see the updates just... plummet. I’m not joking when I say I was overworked there; it even shows in the archives aha.
From December until March has been an extremely tough time, between the horrendous snow we got up here and that job, and though it’s been almost a month (exactly a month?) since I quit, I’m still trying to get back into the swing of things. So really, all things considered, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for reading this little labour of love of mine. Thank you for liking it. That blows my mind.
It’s not done, and I’m not giving up or abandoning it. I just got to probably the most anticipated part of the whole comic, if I stopped now I’d never be considered a reliable webcomic writer again ;)
The last time I updated I asked about this anniversary and what to do, and a couple people suggested something like an FAQ or an ask-me-anything. I would’ve liked to update by now and have properly announced such, but I guess I can still oblige, aha, though it’d be kind of lame hahaha.
Really though, thank you. Considering how doggedly I worked on BTRN when no one read it I can’t say “if it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be doing this”, but you sure as hell make it more enjoyable :)
Updates will resume next week! Happy Holidays, everyone!
I just wanted to pop in and draw attention to the missed updates, which is not the smartest thing in the world I could be doing. Since I started my schedule, I don't think I've ever really gone two weeks without updating, so I did want to pop in and say that I haven't abandoned the comic!
What has happened is that I've been swamped in another comic!
I'm a contestant in The Red, a comic tournament over on deviantART, and seeing as that's got a deadline, I'm putting most of my time into pumping those out. I wouldn't have signed up for it if I wasn't planning on taking on the extra workload, but it does set me back a bit over here. I've been working on pages for the webcomic in between pages of The Red, because I think I'd go mad if I didn't haha.
So the gist of it is, I'll have an update for you guys this coming weekend. In the meantime, I do (kind of) have another comic, if you wanted to check it out! :) Thanks~
I need some extra money for basic living expenses, so I opened up some cheap commissions! :)
I put the details up on Tumblr if you're interested! :) See you Sunday with the next page!
I'm not dead!
... my computer is!
You know, it figures, the day before I'm to post a new page, my computer... um, blows up.
Okay not literally.
It shut down and will not turn on again. I've got everything I want off the hard drive, so I could technically just wipe it buuuuut it had numerous other problems, and in the long run it's more worthwhile to get a new one.
The bad news is, computers cost money, and while I could have bought a new one two weeks ago, that would mean... well. Starving. The good news is, come Friday I get paid again, and I'll have more than enough for my new one! Allow me one more missed update, maybe two, and then all will be back on schedule :) I'll even upload a couple extra pages, to catch myself back up fml.
Also, regarding the last page, I was told in a comment that the image was broken aaaaaand, unfortunately, I can't fix that presently :( (okay I could. But I'm not bringing my whole hard drive to the library to do so). I'm going to blame that on the really horrible internet connection I was using when it was uploaded. I'll remove what's up right now and restore it when I come back with the rest :)
Sorry for all the trouble!
There was a little bit of downtime for about 12 hours as I attempted to fix something with the domain.
It's back now :)
And somehow that was like an hour of my afternoon.
(well I had to make that banner from nothing! I mean I've got like nothing but pages for this comic, I need more to work with--)
They say your background should reflect your comic. So I made sure to use the same patterns I use all the dang time-- *shot*
And this really isn't newsworthy, but testing to make sure it worked made me painfully, PAINfully aware of how outdated that other news post is. Sorry that I don't really post news or anything...
Now to break for dinner and then back to work on that character page #itneverends
